After graduating Suma Cum Laude from Charlotte School of Law and passing both the New Jersey and North Carolina bar in 2013, Roberto J. Espinosa, Esq., a prodigy of the legendary “Champ” Goldman, started his law career at Harkavy, Goldman, Goldman & Gerstein, P.A. where he worked his way up from associate to junior partner. With extensive experience in the field of criminal law and immigration, Roberto Espinosa has trial experience in both criminal defense and removal proceedings. He’s defended many individuals who have faced charges for Controlled Dangerous Substances offenses (CDS), homicides, robberies, burglaries, aggravated assaults, firearms offenses and various other criminal matters. He’s also defended many individuals in removal proceedings before the Executive Office of Immigration Review, where he’s presented Asylum applications, VAWA petitions, adjustment of status applications, cancellation of removal and various other immigration reliefs to the court. Mr. Espinosa started his career in private practice and was a conflicts appointed attorney (Pool) for the Essex County and Union County Public Defender’s office during the first four years of his career. After working in private practice, Mr. Espinosa then transitioned to the Office of the Public Defender where he was a trial attorney for the Union County Public Defender’s office. While there he was
one of the first attorneys to have hands on experience with the criminal justice reform bill of New Jersey, he tried numerous criminal cases for the agency, and was lucky enough to have received the 2021 Trial Attorney award for the Union County Public Defender’s Office. After working for the Public Defender’s office for 4 years he then transitioned back into private practice where he worked as an Associate for Trinity Law Group and was put in charge of all the Immigration, Criminal Defense and Personal Injury Litigation practice for the firm. Presently, Roberto Espinosa, Esq. is the founder and owner of Espinosa Law, L.L.C. A law practice dedicated to the representation of criminal defendants, documented and undocumented immigrants as will as injured plaintiffs. He is also a court appointed attorney for the Federal Criminal Justice Act (CJA), where he defends clients against various Federal Criminal Offenses and the Union County Public Defenders Office.
Roberto Espinosa, Esq. lives under one principle taught to him by his deceased mentor and prior partner Martin “Champ” Goldman, Esq. to always, “Treat your clients the way you would want to be treated if you were sitting in that chair in front of you.” Since starting his career in law and forming his own firm, Mr. Espinosa has excelled in both his Criminal and Immigration practice and looks forward to continuing to contribute to the field and the firm.
